Adana / Turkey

Adana is located in the Middle of the Cilician Plain which is called Cukurova Plain. The city is in the heart of the fertile agricultural area that is fed by the lifegiving waters of Seyhan River, 30 km from the Northeastern corner of the Mediterranean Sea. Adana is the fourth largest city in Turkey. It has a population of 1.2 million inhabitants (2004 estimate). NATO's Incirlik Air Base is located 12 km east of Adana. Adana is an important trade centre. The industry of Adana is highly developed and produce textiles, tanned leather, processed wool, agricultural machinery, cement, vegetable oil and food and it is also the centre of an agricultural region which is producing cotton, rice, wheat, barley, sesame, oats, citrus fruit, grapes and tobacco. Local points of interests are Aslantaþ picnic area, Karatepe National Park and Open Air Museum, Adana and Anavarza Castles, Grand Mosque, Akça Mosque, Stone Bridge (Taþ Köprü), Sarýçam woodlands, Seyhan Dam.
