It located to the east of the settlement unit Nevsehir. The name of the city in the Scythian/khatti language is "Kourama" meaning "place of the people of the main goddess". Situated in the environs of the settlement unit Goreme is the Castle of Uchisar in pyramidal from of white tuff dominating the plain with hundreds of dwellings and shelters carved out of rock. Castle of Uchisar appears in the from of a pigeon\'s nest. In the area, the site of rock-carved churches located to the east of the settlement Goreme is called Goreme Open Air Museum.
